The UNIOSUN leadership received on Thursday (June 10) key officials from the University of The Gambia led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Faqir Muhammad Anjun at the University’s main campus in Osogbo to review an existing relationship and renew a memorandum of understanding (memorandum of understanding). The Memorandum of Understanding, which was in place five (5) years ago, will allow staff and students to continue participating in exchange programs and enrich the quality of teaching and learning for students. two universities.

Osun State University Vice Chancellor Professor Labode Popoola, speaking at the meeting, explained that the two universities signed the first agreement in 2017. He added that key officials of the ‘University of The Gambia visit Osun State University for agreement review and expansion of agreement on the basis of the fertility of the first agreement, with so many changes and developments in the world between that time and today. For example, there was no COVID in 2017, so there was no such thing as Zoom or the virtual meeting, teaching and learning. In addition, UNIOSUN has experienced considerable growth and development over the past four years, which was not reflected in the original MoU.

“We have also incorporated all new developments into the new MoU, and we believe the partnership between the two universities will produce a series of grants, academics, physical and infrastructural developments at both universities,” added Professor Labode Popoola.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of The Gambia, Professor Faqir Muhammad Anjun ‘noted that the MoU is very important for the University of The Gambia as it will allow the University to solve some challenges and learn from successes and experiences of Uniosun. He believed that this MOU would help secure the required training for faculty members and other staff at the University.

“UNIOSUN has made significant progress over the past four years after our visit in 2017, mainly in infrastructure and university programs, and we believe that the University of The Gambia will benefit from the experiences of the University.

“I am very grateful to the Vice-Chancellor of UNIOSUN, Professor Labode Popoola, for providing this opportunity to improve our system both academically and administratively at the University of The Gambia, and I appreciate the efforts. to make this partnership a success. There are many areas where we will enjoy collaboration and vice versa, ”added Professor Anjum.

Speaking on the challenges facing the University of The Gambia, University Registrar Dr Momodou Lamin Tarro said the university is currently lacking high-level faculty and this is affecting the institution. According to him, “the university started about 21 years ago, and it has been difficult to hire high-level professors due to the low funding and thanks to this type of collaboration involving the exchange of lecturers and professors. , this will ease the challenges facing the university “added Dr Tarro.

Meanwhile, Osun State University Registrar Mr. Gafar Adebayo Shittu said Osun State University expects full cooperation from University of The Gambia in different fields, stressing that it will encourage the international link between the two universities.
