Immediately de-escalate tension in Ejura – Mahama to Akufo-Addo

Former President John Dramani Mahama has urgently called on his successor, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to initiate an immediate de-escalation of the situation in Ejura in the Ashanti Region.

Violent clashes in that town on Tuesday, June 29 led to the death of two persons with four sustaining various degrees of injury.

A joint police-cum-military force had been called in after irate youth massed up to protest the deadly attack on social media activist Ibrahim Anyass, popularly known on Facebook as Macho Kaaka.

Macho Kaaka was attacked by a mob Sunday dawn on his way home but could not survive the head injuries he sustained as he died while on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Former President Mahama has added his voice to calls for calm in Ejura but demanded thorough investigations into the firing of live ammunition into the protesting crowd.

“I add my voice to calls for calm following the shooting to death of two persons and the injury to many in Ejura today, following the murder of youth activist Ibrahim ‘Kaaka’ Mohammed.

“I have just seen a video of the firing of live ammunition into a crowd by persons wearing military attire, after the burial of the murdered youth activist.

“I urgently call on President Nana Akufo-Addo to initiate an immediate de-escalation of the situation in Ejura.

“There must be a very thorough investigation of both the murder of the youth activist and the security rules of engagement, which resulted in the shooting to death of the two others.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and the Ejura community.”

“When you go home…tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today!” Epitaph at the Kohima War Cemetry

Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on 26 July to honour the brave soldiers of the Indian army who selflessly laid down their lives to safeguard India’s borders. This year marks the 22nd commemoration of victory at Kargil.

The Indian School observed Kargil Vijay Diwas with a series of activities aimed at remembering the glorious deeds of the martyrs.
Students from class 5 upwards were shown a video documentary of one of the missions undertaken in Chorbat La, the gateway for incursions by
the enemy.

The teachers presented a background of the war with the help of a Power Point presentation. At the end, the students attempted a quiz based on the Kargil war.

The presentations opened the door for a discussion. Many students shared their thoughts and feelings. Their every word paid a rich tribute to the fallen heroes and the sacrifices made by them in the line of duty.

These martyrs shall forever live on in the memories of a grateful nation. Their tales of valour shall inspire generations of young Indians.
