Published

on

The Commonwealth Scholarship is one of the largest and most prestigious scholarships in the world. Since its founding in 1959, the scholarship has been awarded annually and has awarded more than 35,000 individual scholarships.

The scholarship awards more than 900 fully funded scholarships annually to Commonwealth citizens for postgraduate study and professional development. The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, visas, travel and food allowances, and other benefits. It’s just as good as with scholarships.

You might be interested to know that there are different categories of Commonwealth scholarships. The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK, responsible for the Commonwealth Scholarship, offers citizens of Commonwealth countries a total of 8 bonds and scholarships.

Who can apply for a Commonwealth scholarship?

You must be a citizen or permanent resident of a Commonwealth country to apply for a Commonwealth scholarship. If you are a refugee or a protected Briton, you will still be eligible.

You must also have at least an honorary second-class undergraduate degree (2: 1). You also need a corresponding master’s degree if you want to study for a PhD.

Finally, without the scholarship, you must not be able to afford to study in the UK.

How to Apply for Commonwealth Scholarships

Applicants interested in the Commonwealth Scholarship will need to apply to a national nominating agency in their country for the scholarship. Each country has its own specific nominating bodies, with its own rules, eligibility criteria and deadlines for candidates to be well guided.

The course you wish to study will need to be taught at a university in partnership with the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. If you have previously been accepted into a course with an eligible university, that university can apply on your behalf.

You can start your personal application by following the online process on your country’s page on the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission website. After you have applied through your country page, your application will then be sent directly to your country’s nominating agency.

Document requirements

Before starting the online application, you should make sure you have the following documents handy:
