Apply for the World Bank Young Professionals Program 2022 (YPP)

The World Bank is now accepting applications from citizens of World Bank Group member countries for its 2022 Young Professionals Program (YPP). The deadline for submitting applications for 2022 World Bank Young Professionals Program (YPP) is July 15, 2021.

World Bank Young Professionals Program

The World Bank and IFC have merged their respective Young Professionals programs into a single World Bank Group Young Professionals Program (GBM YPP).

The WBG YPP is a two-year leadership development program at the start of a five-year employment contract with the World Bank, IFC or MIGA. Young Professionals (YPs) begin the program in Washington, DC, where they engage in intensive training – on the job and in the classroom – learning the fundamentals of leadership and development operations in institutions, and how to identify opportunities for common impact.

The WBG YPP is the start of an exciting career within the World Bank Group. Young professionals are recruited from around the world with a variety of academic and professional backgrounds relevant to the World Bank, IFC and MIGA. They seek candidates who demonstrate a passion for international development, graduate studies, relevant professional experience and the potential to evolve into impactful leadership roles in their institutions.

Features of the World Bank Young Professionals Program

  • Professional experience: JPs are full-time employees, making a significant contribution to their respective unit’s work program, while building networks and knowledge across the Bank Group through the YPP. They often join missions in the field, where they work on the front line of WBG operations, learn key aspects of their work, and engage directly with their clients.
  • Leadership development: Through the WBG YPP program, YPs develop the basic knowledge to contribute to their business and the skills to lead. Activities range from leadership and professional development workshops to networking, mentoring and conversations with WBG leaders.
  • Training on WBG policies, products and operations: JPs undergo intensive training on the policies, products and operations of the World Bank, IFC and MIGA. This aspect of the WBG YPP program ensures that YPs know how to operationalize joint WBG solutions to development challenges, and how to retain and apply this knowledge for years to come.
  • Global rotations within the WBG: YPs participate in at least one rotation within their home institution, with some engaging in additional rotations in another institution, with the aim of developing and applying skills throughout the company. Rotations are a central part of the program, giving YPs the exposure to understand how institutions work (and can work together) as well as how to align their skills with priority areas, such as countries affected by fragility, conflict and crisis. violence (FCV), and other harsh environments.
  • Mentoring coaching: YPs are assigned multiple mentors at the peer and department level. Mentors can provide advice on a variety of topics ranging from settling in Washington, DC to identifying career opportunities throughout the YP experience and beyond.
  • Networking Events: In addition to program orientation and graduation ceremonies, the WBG YPP office holds regular events for JPs to stay in touch with program alumni, stakeholders and broader WBG staff.
  • Rotations and placements supported by management: YPs receive support at the executive level in their transitions to rotations and post-YPP internships, ensuring that their skills are best placed across the company.
